Sublimation is one of the most widely used printing methods. Through sublimation, a seamless quality is achieved with the sublimation mug itself. Sublimation is also considered one of the most affordable printing methods, leaving a long-lasting imprint on the desired product (provided that the product can support this type of printing). The most common items used for sublimation printing are mugs, polyester garments (such as sports T-shirts and jerseys), glasses, mouse pads, puzzles, phone and tablet cases. A sublimation coating is essential in order to create a complete sublimation product and enable sublimation printing.

What is required to perform sublimation?

• A product with a sublimation coating that meets the required specifications
• A sublimation printer with sublimation paper
• Refillable cartridges with continuous ink supply for printing (it is essential that the ink is sublimation ink; standard printing ink is not used. We recommend ImageArmor inks.)
• Heat press (commonly referred to as an iron)
• Placing the desired item on the heat press plate, positioning the sublimation paper correctly, and covering it with protective paper to prevent unwanted transfer
• Heating the press to temperatures between 170 and 200 degrees Celsius (with pressing time of one to two minutes)

The sublimation process on mugs is carried out as follows:

• Preparing the mugs and allowing them to adjust to the production room temperature
• Preparing and printing the design using a sublimation printer according to the mug dimensions
• The sublimation mug is wiped with a microfiber cloth before applying the paper (the paper is fixed using heat-resistant tape that does not leave permanent marks on the mug)
• The mug is placed into the heat press mold, gradually heated until it reaches 170°C, after which the press runs for one and a half minutes
• After removing the mug from the mold, the sublimation paper is peeled off, and the mug is left to cool down to room temperature
• The mug is then packed in cellophane packaging, and afterwards in a retail box
• The mug is finished and ready for shipment
